Phonics worksheets to print

Free A4 worksheets that follow the app world by world: meet each sound, trace it, write it on four lines, then read, spell and sort real words. Every page has a tip for the grown-up in Malayalam and English.

How they work

Each world of the app has a pack: a page for grown-ups first, then two or three pages for every sound, big letters, heart words, then reading, sound boxes, sorting, dictation, the world's story as a book to fold, a race game, a check-up and a certificate.

  • Four-line ruling, as in Indian schools: small letters sit between the blue lines, tall letters reach the top red line, tails reach the bottom one.
  • Start dots and arrows show where the pencil begins and which way it goes. Each writing page fades from tracing to dotted letters to start dots only, and ends with rows to write from memory behind a fold.
  • Only words your child can read. Every word uses sounds already taught in the app, and pictures are ones children name the same way.
  • Made-up words on the check-up (like *pas*) show real sounding out, not memory.
  • Stickers only for real progress: the check-up and the certificate, never for every line.
  • Big letters are matched from World 1 and written from World 2, all 26 by World 5, with the alphabet and the letters' names.
  • Heart words such as *the*, *said* and *was* show their tricky part under a heart, to trace, write and find in the story.
  • A story book from one sheet: print it, fold it, make one cut, and your child has a little eight-page book of the world's story to read to Amma or Achan three times.

Print on A4. The ink-saver version is black and white, with pictures to colour in; the colour version uses each world's colour.

Using them with the app

Do the pages in the same week your child plays that world in the app: the app's level first, then the page for the same sound. One or two pages a day is plenty, with a grown-up beside the child. The sounds on every sheet are the ones Naina Teacher and Arun Sir say in the app, so if you are not sure how a sound goes, open Letters & Sounds in the app and listen.
